tickpositions - datetime xAxis

In case when xAxis has datetime type and we set tickPositions as timestamps, then labels are not dates, but numbers.

The internal reason is that since these tick positions don't go through the usual logic to determine the normalized distance between ticks, Highcharts hasn't decided on the best dateTimeLabelFormat.

The workaround is to use the labels formatter, see http://jsfiddle.net/highcharts/AWeNf/4/.

Edit: In the upcoming Highcharts 3.0, you can use the shorter and JSON compatible labels.format: http://jsfiddle.net/highcharts/AWeNf/5/

"Fix" with labels / formatter is known, but I was curious about "default parsing" timestamps as datetime.

I know... When a workaround is known, we should always add it to the issue tracker so that users who find this issue know how to deal with it until it gets closed.

Additionally I observed that autoRotation has no effect when using tickPositions.

Thank you for contacting us. This is still labeled as a bug. You can use the workaround with the formatter function that is mentioned above or use the tickPositioner that returns required ticks along with an additional object in the array (info) which contains information necessary to create a label’s format. We will take a closer look at this problem.
