To reproduce:

hide all series
gridlines are not displayed correctly
show last series
gridlines are still incorrect.

The core problem seems to be a regression in Highcharts 3.0 that minor grid lines aren't hidden when the axis is hidden:

Click the series name in the legend to hide
Minor grid lines are still visible
