There seems to be an issue with the compiled highcharts script.
The default legend symbol \u25CF is getting changed to â— on compile.

Running the following HTML file in IE8 displays the problem. The bullet sign in the tooltip is corrupted when using highcharts.js, but not when using highcharts.src.js. It happens when the HTML page is non-UTF. Modern browsers are not affected.

Highcharts test tool - jsFiddle demo

#container {
    min-width: 300px;
    max-width: 800px;
    height: 300px;
    margin: 1em auto;

//

        categories: ['Jan', 'Feb', 'Mar', 'Apr', 'May', 'Jun',
            'Jul', 'Aug', 'Sep', 'Oct', 'Nov', 'Dec']
