Inconsistent attribution of colors on drilldown series/points #5519

Expected behaviour

According to the documentation color = null is default, so I'm expecting to be able to set it to null and get default behaviour including color inheritance from parent series on drilldown. However, I get wildly inconsistent results when color = null or even color = undefined.

Actual behaviour

Case A
Condition: Drilldown series has a color, point color is null or undefined.

  • Point color is not correctly assigned initially but is corrected on mouseover. The issue reappears after toggling the visibility of the series.
  • drillUpButton goes missing if at least 1 point has color = null or color = undefined.
  • Tooltip point color is black if the point has color = null or color = undefined.

Case B
Condition: Drilldown series color is null or undefined.
Behaviour: Drilldown points color change on every drilldown event.

Affected browser(s)

Behaviour is consistent across all major browsers.
