Configuration files are overwritten during standard configuration creation #25330

Operating environment (Hass.io/Docker/Windows/etc.):

Dev Setup on Linux Mint 19

Component/platform:

Description of problem:
automation.yaml and secrets.yaml are overwritten in case no configuration.yaml is present at startup. Possible data loss esp. for the secrets.yaml

Repro steps:

  1. Backup your config
  2. Check the backup of your config
  3. Stop HA
  4. Delete configuration.yaml
  5. Start HA

Result:

  1. configuration.yaml is created --> fine
  2. automation.yaml and secrets.yaml are empty or have the HA default values

Expected Result:

  1. Do not touch the automation.yaml or secrets.yaml
    or
  2. make a backup of the files before overwriting
