As far as I understand it, to update the backend of a hoodie app all we need is (or will be) npm update.
I wonder if it would be possible to run that command from within the server? I'd love to have a button in pocket saying "update hoodie" and everything gets updated and then the server restarted to simplify the update procedure of own hoodie installations
not sure what this is?
let's get back to this when tide is low ;-)
You should check out: https://github.com/garden20/gardener It can help for updating workers. Probably a tangent from the original issue, but maybe I can twist it a bit more for hoodie.
I think the main difference is that hoodie currently manages an app through a top level package.json file instead of a design doc.
What @gr2m wants is doable as well, but is deploy-dependent. E.g. for Nodejitsu, we’d have a module that can talk to the Nodejitsu API and trigger an update. Also, with setups like GitHub Push to Deploy, this becomes moot. but for other setups the self-update worker makes sense.
Not sure where we're going with this, closing the issue. @gr2m re-open it if you think I've missed something important here.
