I think we should consider adding something simple like Discuss to each page. That would reduce a lot of barriers for people asking questions or making suggestions.

I see that a lot of static website build with Jekyll use disqus. We could use it or write a similar service based on OSM ids.

I think we should look for a different way for people to make suggestions or ask questions. The first version of LearnOSM had comments, but most of them ended up making the site not look very clean. Maybe a big "Help" button that goes to a forum or somewhere else that people could make comments. We could track which page they were coming from though to make the context more clear.

It could be build on a separate page/section that use a commenting system.
Or on the same page, but by default the "commenters" are hidden.

(Personally, I don't like forums because they are too complicated, have a different logic and look and feel comparing to the initial site. They are not well integrated with the original site.)

For information, this tool could be interesting ?

Juvia is an open source commenting system. [It] is similar to Disqus and IntenseDebate.

Other notable highlights:

  • Moderation support, either manually or automatically via Akismet.
  • Multi-user support. With this I don't mean commenters but users who operate the Juvia admin panel. Each user account is isolated and can only see and manage its own sites, topics and comments, except for administrators who can see and manage everything.
  • Email notification of new comments.

PS: you could see it in action at the end of this article of Pierre Chrzanowski:

I recently came across this active forum site for OSM if that's still an option. https://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/
