It seems that Walking Papers is no longer maintained, and so in the field we are actually using «Field Papers».
What about updating the ad hoc chapter too?

Just adding Joseph in this thread as he worked on repairing the Walking
papers, if I am not wrong.

Sincerely,

Severin

@yohanboniface actually the issue is that HOT needs to set-up our own instance of Walking Papers. The features between Field Papers and Walking Papers don't map exactly to each other.

@IknowJoseph was working on setting this up, but the scanning portion is not working yet.

I may have identified a potential solution for getting Walking Papers
working, but at the moment we're missing the required super-talented, time
rich, computer people. Will keep you all updated on the situation.

@milovanderlinden

Any progress on this? I would gladly be of help, ping me if I can be of service.

@george08

Hi - George from Stamen here. Popping by to let you know we're about to deploy a bunch of improvements to Field Papers. Should be live within the next 24-48 hours, and I'm writing a blog post to outline the "change log".

We're also working on an OSM page that helps people get up and running with Field Papers.

Hi Georges, that's a great news! And thanks for the update :)

Since Field Papers version II has officially been released and looks like is working quite well, should we highlight the use of Field Papers instead of Walking Papers?

We are working on it now. But there isnt any straightforward josm integration as of the moment.

@george08

Hi @maning - what should a straightforward josm integration look like? Could it be another link like the ones we've added for iD & Potlatch?

E.g. http://fieldpapers.org/snapshot.php?id=h5btrztn#18/7.71626/81.71315

If it's that simple, that should be straightforward to include, especially if that's a big thing that's holding back wider adoption.

@george08,
I proposed two solutions, one is to create a JOSM plugin similar to the WP plugin or use JOSM's Remote Control feature.
Personally, I prefer the RC approach and just put a link similar to Edit in iD/P2 (above image).

@george08

A ha! I didn't see that since the issue was closed. Cool! I'll see what I can do.

Field Papers seems to be functioning now and we don't have need for Walking Papers. I've pulled in maning's changes to the site.

I didn't see any links to other languages than English on Field Papers, maybe I missed it. If that is so, it is a huge disadvantage. It would be pointless to refer to an english-only site from a e.g. German Beginner's Guide.

Edit: I've just seen that multilingual support is planned for 2.0 (stamen/fieldpapers#155). And I missed that Walking Papers did not work anymore, maybe better to have an english site than none.

Yah, the learnOSM guide is a bit behind and needs to be updated, which is something I want to work on in the coming weeks. This means that the translations may need to be updated as well, but in the case of Walking Papers it wasn't working anyway.
