500 Error when following steveklabnik@rstat.us #698
Comments

Not sure when you tried doing the follow stuff, but it might be related to the Amazon US-East problems going on since rstat.us is deployed to Heroku. Then again, it could totally be something else. |

This bug is of the highest priority!!!!!! |

+1 on this bug being critical. |

Why do you wanna follow him? I hear he's using app.net now. |

lololololol |
If you follow me on twitter, that can be construed as a feature. |
It's true. Otherwise, we would have seen a surge of people request server-side filters. :) |

I'm taking this opportunity to refactor some of the code to help us solve this one. I've also thrown my email address at it, uncovering a 404 error from what I believe to be OStatus::Feed. I'll have more later. |
|
I've extracted this out to a couple of services, and tidied up the tests surrounding this which should give more insight and better ability to handle potential errors in this area. I'll be creating a pull request shortly. |
… a local user that doesn't exist using the remote form)
…ting users when domain entered is the current one.

I believe everything for this has been merged in, so I'm closing this issue. Thank you for all your work, @gavinlaking!!!! |
I entered
steveklabnik@rstat.uson a whim into the follow form, and the first time this happened I got the standard rails 500 error. The next couple of times I tried I got a timeout.Strangely, I ended up with
1 followingeven though I hadn't followed anyone yet at the time.On a lark I tried adding
nobody@rstat.us, and got a nice error message back explaining that this wasn't going to be possible. On second thought, maybe I shouldn't be trying to follow someone locally using the remote link. PEBKAC, perhaps?
I'm completely unfamiliar with this project at the moment, so I can't even guess as to whether this is related to other issues (#596 or #565, maybe?).
