Please update the makefiles to also create a shared object (so) in the build. Or am I missing the gmake target?
Not missing a target. I'm surprised myself the build doesn't generate a .so
The current gmake makefile definitely doesn't build it. I'll poke around further.
OK, figured it out. If you want to build tidy as a shared object, instead of using the build/gmake makefile, you need to use the GNU Auto stuff in the build/gnu-auto directory:
sh build/gnuauto/setup.sh && ./configure && make
That'll generate files in the src/.libs dir -- .so files on Linux and .dylib ones on OSX. And will install them if you run the "install" target.
I'll update the main README to note this stuff.
