Then you will need a Cross Compiler for the Mips architecture
I used the toolchain for the i586 from this page:

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 so I used alien (http://kitenet.net/~joey/code/alien/) to conver the rpm to Debian package.  Just run apt-get install alien , then run alien <rpm name> and then dpkg -i <debian package name>
