Output of i3 --version:

i3 version 4.13 (2016-11-08) © 2009 Michael Stapelberg and contributors

What I did:

I made two windows on an empty workspace and pressed mod4+e until they were vertically aligned.

I then changed the resolution using xrandr.

What I saw:

The two windows are now horizontally aligned.

What I expected instead:

The two windows still being vertically aligned.

NB. It also happens on a second monitor that isn't changing resolution when the first monitor is. splitv lower in the tree isn't affected.

I don’t see a link to logs.i3wm.org. Did you follow http://i3wm.org/docs/debugging.html? (In case you actually provided a link to a logfile, please ignore me.)

See https://i3wm.org/docs/userguide.html#_orientation_for_new_workspaces. Does that apply to you, i.e., do you change the resolution such that the ratio changes like that?

@stapelberg Would it be intended for this to affect existing workspaces?

The behavior shouldn’t affect existing workspaces.

do you change the resolution such that the ratio changes like that?

I do change the primary monitor from 1920x1200 to 800x600. My secondary monitor that has the splitv layout stays at the same resolution though (1920x1080).

default_orientation vertical

Thanks, I ran this command and it doesn't change to splith anymore.
