Sometimes things are screwed up in one of only a few common ways:

  • contradicting file versions
  • files with different versions of the same classes
  • missing files

We could have a "repair installation" button for these common problems. Or maybe even detect the situations upon startup of the updater.

As discussed with @dscho today: we might want to expose such a "button" from the command line (i.e., via the launcher), so that in cases where ImageJ won't even start up due to JAR version skew or whatnot, the installation can still be repaired. Generally speaking, a very difficult problem...
