I had the same issue with https url. It looks like a regex on Rakefile:284 can only parse git@github.com:kanaukou/kanaukou.github.com.git

 user = repo_url.match(/:([^\/]+)/)[1]

This tripped me up too. It might be worthwhile making it more clear what is meant by "your Github Pages repository url" in the Deploying to Github Pages. Under the With Github User/Organization pages subheading, in step 1., adding the following example git@github.com:username/username.github.com.git might prevent the next potential user from getting confused.

This worked for me too. I think that talking about urls in the previous paragraph with the example the example: http://username.github.com is misleading, a reference to a real example is needed in order to avoid this problem.

The solution:
after rake deploy

cd _deploy

git push origin master

I made a mistake because after doing that git cannot find my github repo. What should I change? My repository URL or something in octopress configuration? How can I do that?

my repository url is "git@github.com:careychow/careychow.github.com.git".
the error is:
openpath: pathname too long(ignored)
Directory ""
File "git"
rake aborted!
