Traceback and exception via JSON ?

Is it possible to send an exception and tracebacks serialized to json then reconstitute on the other side, while avoiding the pickle module ?

I'm looking at implementing RCF 9457, which is about sending exception info over the wire - it can have extra fields, so ideally I could send all this info over, but avoiding pickle.
