@klonuo

This is minor long term issue and I thought to open issue

If IPython Qt console application window is set on-top, then trying to close IPython nothing happens - or close dialog is raised in background of on-top IPython window.

This is on Ubuntu but I think it is same on Windows but not sure, as I remember it happened before and I was thinking why it does not closes when the thing is dialog is waiting in background to be confirmed :D

Cheers

Environment questions:

  1. IPython 0.11 or git?
  2. Ubuntu, Python, PySide and/or PyQt versions (if from apt, just which one is enough)
  3. How are you closing it, via ctrl-q/alt-F4, or via the menu?

I can't remember ever seeing this, and can't seem to reproduce it myself.

@klonuo

0.11 and 0.12dev on Ubuntu 11.04 with PyQt 4.8.3-2 (from apt)

@klonuo

Additionally I tested same scenario on other PyQt application, and there is no problem

Does this happen every time, or only occasionally? And are you closing with the keyboard or the mouse?

@klonuo

Happens all the time, no matter how I try to close

For clearance I'll repeat first post:

  • IPython Qt console is set on-top, and I try to close it
  • confirmation dialog is opened, but it's not visible as main IPython Qt console windows in on-top of it
  • I can move of course main window and confirm closing then

ok, I wonder why I've never seen it. I'm using PyQt4 4.7.2 on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, so maybe that's it. I have 11.04 on one of my home machines, and I will test there later today, to see if I can't reproduce it.

@fperez, @takluyver, I think you guys use the qtconsole regularly on Ubuntu, do you see this issue?

Reproduced first time I tried with IPython 0.11, Ubuntu 11.10: http://yfrog.com/klrxg6p

I don't know if the bug is with us, or with the window manager. Let's see if we can replicate it with any other (Qt) apps.

Tested on 0.11 and git master, and can't see the problem. I'm using xfce with compiz as the window manager; I suspect this is window manager-related... Would be nice to fix it, if we knew what's going on, but I'm not holding my breath :)

I'm closing this because it doesn't look like it's anything we can actually fix ourselves... It's most likely a combination of window manager and toolkit issue.
