  • Currently irssi doesn't support 256 colors. ncurses can support that fine (see "--enable-ext-colors compile for 256-color support" ncurses configure option).

My feature request is to add 256 color support to irssi.

Note that there is a problem with running irssi on 256 capable terminals currently. With recent ncurses (5.7 20110205) some colors are dark enough that are invisible. If full 256 color support is not planned then it would be good to fix defaults to work nicely even on 256 colors capable terminals.

Example on how irssi looks on old ncurses and current (5.7 20110205) ncurses on 256 color capable terminal (kde konsole with TERM=konsole-256color).

Is there any progress on this? I have the same problems, I tried several themes but either the timestamp becomes invisible or some other element. Even the default theme doesn't display everything. If you can't allow 256 colours can you at least provide a theme that works nicely for those with 256 colours terminals?
