Thanks for the detailed response!

Stopzilla Anti

I'm not familiary with that AV software. Does it pop up a notification when it blocks or quarantine? Or is there a log of its actions somewhere?

Also: does it have a whitelist feature? If so, could you try whitelisting the folders listed in the "Antivirus software" section of this page: https://itch.io/docs/itch/installing/windows.html

No pop up comes up

Can you check my other questions from that last comment?

it wouldn't have not allowed me to open the application

It's not that simple really - Antivirus software might be fine with an application launching, but then block it from reading or writing to a file, or establishing a network connection.

Besides, the itch app uses other executables to work:

butler in particular is used to make all itch.io API requests, so it is used for login. Normally I'd expect it to fail earlier (and mention that you might need to whitelist some folders), not to just be stuck forever, but I'm not entirely sure how StopZilla works, so, that's why I'm fishing for more info!
