When connecting to FTP or SFTP server the disconnect button does not produce any result. The first time I click it it become greyed out and it is not possible to click it anymore leaving me with the connection opened forever.

The only solution is to quit the application and restart it.

You are already disconnected from the server when the browser list is greyed out and the toolbar button as well.

The browser list is not greyed out only the disconnect button is. In fact I can still go around and perform operations on the remote files and folders

It will reconnect when you are performing operations on files still displayed in the browser.
