Grey edge to Glasses sheets

At a recent tasting table space was very crowded. So there was approximately no gap between one person’s glasses sheets, the neighbours’ glasses sheets. I was asked whether glasses sheets could have a grey edge, say, 18pt across. in a light grey.

This seems sensible. Any objections?

What controls are needed? Need to specify which edges.

Sizes? Is there one size, /PageEdgingWidth 36 def, or is there a separate width on each edge? How neatly capture?

A single colour choice is easiest:

If there are to be separate colours for each edge, then thought need to be given to behaviour at the corners. I lack enthusiasm for such complication.

"Is there one size": perhaps have a pre-determined max size, but then also take account of how close the nearest glass circle is, and prevent the size being too large to interfere with nearest glasses? Does max size vary with page size, so different for A4, A3 etc? Do whatever is easiest I'd say.

Struggling to come up with a use case for top and bottom.

At the recent 2000s tasting, because of a shortage of table space, some of the ½-A4 pages were above. My understanding of the request was that top was needed.

how about one shade for left and a different shade for right. That way placemats lined up side by side have a contrast.

Surely the purpose is to have a boundary between people. So, typically, SheetNum=0 has left, SheetNum=1 has right.

Hmm: we have two different models of this.

A lack of space due to (1) a leaf of the table being removed, and (2) the setup team inexplicably putting two single places at ninety degrees at each table end thereby exacerbating lack of space, resulted in (a) placemats butting up all the way along the table, and (b) some of the A4 placemat sheets being appended to the top of a landscape A3 placemat page. An unholy mess all round :-)

Having re-looked at the setup, I now am not sure if there is any need for different colour shading left and right. Shading on each side will clearly delineate each placemat from one alongside.

"Top": I now see a use case for, being when one placemat is at a table end oriented ninety degrees from the others along the table.
"Bottom": still can't see a use case.

And placing A4 placemats above a landscape A3 placemat is a scenario not worth planning for or accommodating, in my view.

Broadly happy. Like you, I also don’t see a use case for /Bottom, but am not willing to code three but not four cases. Weird stuff happens. So there will be all four.

Separately, /PageEdgingEdges [ /Top /Right /Bottom /Left ] def is wrong, because it fails to cope with variation by SheetNum.

¿Maybe four parameters, each an array of Booleans, each array the same length as the number of glasses pages?

No. Change of mind. The previous post’s suggested parameterisation feels inconsistent with there being a single colour. Instead:
