  2. use .indexOf instead of .test. closes #3.

it's a little more code, but at least it's faster:

  4. removed polling in favor of native event binding

with just a little more code, this covers both the worst case
(window.onload) and the best case (DOMContentLoaded), with an
additional check for "readystatechange" when document.readyState
    is "complete".

  1. trying a new approach based on Diego Perini's work

since window.load is the ultimate fallback, i'm taking a break
from polling and optimizing on events. this binds to three types
of events, and runs on the first one called.

  5. use /^u|g$/ to check document.readyState. closes #2.

as jdalton suggests, if we're going to rely on the value
of readyState, then we should include `interactive`
as well. i wanted to avoid a RegExp, but this one should
be incredibly fast, and also allows us to get rid of the
original guard to guarantee that the value exists.
