Trouble Getting Jekyll to have maruku perform tex -> png #702

I am able to have maruku convert tex to png when I invoke it directly, however, it will not work when going through jekyll.
My _config.yml is being discovered as reported by jekyll and contains the appropriate settings:

maruku:
  use_tex: true
  use_divs: true
  png_engine: blahtex
  png_dir: images/latex
  png_url: /images/latex

Is there something I'm missing?
This does not seem to be a common application so I had a very difficult time finding any information on the issue.
Any recommendations and help is greatly appreciated.

Paths should end in slashes.

maruku:
  use_tex: true
  use_divs: true
  png_engine: blahtex
  png_dir: images/latex/
  png_url: /images/latex/

If you have .png files with size zero, modify "/maruku/ext/math/mathml_engines/blahtex.rb:19" from

if not File.exists?(result_file)

to

if not File.size?(result_file)

Maybe I'll fix these today, if they aren't fixed already. Or maybe I did something wrong - I'm new to Jekyll - but this fixed my problems.

There where no images generated and none of the tex had been interpreted when I appended the slashes. I tried the second fix anyway, but it didn't fix anything. My config is copied straight from the wiki so I feel confident there is nothing wrong there.

So maruku does not process .textile files unless you throw one at it directly through the CLI. Changing to a .md resolved all my problems.
