UTF subtitles problem

I just finished solving a problem with subtitles.
The internal and external versions of subtitles for a Chinese movie were not being read even though the file was recognized and listed. They were the same file; oone in, one out.
I had a hunch and loaded the external version into a subtitle editor. I deleted a splash promo line and exported to the same format as the original. I added the new subs to the library, replacing the original external subs. The subs displayed correctly.
I loaded both, the before and after, into Notepad++. I could find no obvious differences until I happen to get a flash of the Unicode type.
The type successfully displayed from Notepad++'s Encoding function, was UTF-8-BOM, the failing type was UTF-8.
For users, Notepad++ also changes encodings.

I ran a movie through mkvtoolnix and got the following warning:
"--- Warnings emitted by job 'Multiplexing to file "Adieu Philippine 1962.DVDRip.x264.mks" in directory "C:\Users\jimly\Desktop"' started on 2022-07-27 13:18:33 -04:00 ---
'C:\Users\jimly\Desktop\Adieu Philippine 1962.DVDRip.x264.mkv' track 2: This text subtitle track contains invalid 8-bit characters outside valid multi-byte UTF-8 sequences. Please specify the correct encoding for this track."

The subtitle was not playing in jellyfin and thaqt prompted me to extract the file and check utf type.
Apparently the utf type was utf-8. I'm converting to utf-8-bom.

The point is: the problem could be in my sources and not jellyfin, so I'm closing this issue.
