[JENKINS-1307] Display a warning message when archiving entire workspace #24112

Closed

Description

@jenkins-infra-bot

When "Archive the artifacts" is checked and the last item from the "Files to
archive" field is removed, Hudson follows the standard ant 'include' format of
everything. I.e. the entire workspace.

Hudson should display a warning message in the job configuration page when the
entire workspace is going to be archived, since although this is correct ant
include behavior it is unlikely to be desired for large workspaces.

Time and or content reporting of what is being archived in the Hudson log might
also be nice, but that's a separate RFE

      I suggest that the warning message should be black/bold and perhaps a little warning icon next to the text similar to the warning messages displayed in Eclipse.

      I'd rather suggest we reject it as a configuration error. If someone really do insist on archiving the entire workspace, s/he should use "*/" (which we could suggest in the error message.)

      Fixed in 1.186.

      So far, I didn't add the form validation for this, as every configuration starts by empty value in this field, and I thought it'd be annoying if an error shows up by default.

      But OTOH, maybe I'm already doing this pattern elsewhere in Hudson...

      Feel free to reopen if people feel that we should do this in the form validation too.
