Wish : Ability to drill down into Subprojects #5

Description

@qtzar

We organize a lot of our projects in a subproject style system. There are no issues module at the higher level so the dashboard can currently only be enabled at the subproject level.

From a project management point of view it would be nice if there was an option to show the issues at the subproject levels, even with a selector like the 'tracker selector' that had an option to select which subproject's issues to display. This way a project owner can get an overview of the entire project from a single location.

    +1 This is something we could do with too for the same reason.

    Well, I'd also like to have all issues from sub projects in a single dashboard but there are some issues I'd like to discuss:

    1. Sub projects can have completely different trackers, statuses, etc. As for the dashboard I'd just merge these, but at least the columns must be customizable to map multiple statuses to same column to be usable.
    2. Uses can have different permissions in sub projects so all actions (visibility, allowed changes, allowed workflows) need to be calculated (for interaction) and checked for each issue separately. Another way would be to only use the top-level project permissions for all actions, so you do not need to add managers etc. to all projects to use dashboard. That also includes the 'View Dashboard' permission as you may have it on the top-level project but not on a sub project. What should happen?

    Together with other feature (#8, #14, #16) this will require to actual create dashboards as records in the database (currently everything's done on the run) to store dashboard specific configuration and therefor a lot of code rewrites and changes. I've summarized this in #22.

    I'd like to know how you would expect the permission handling and dashboard configuration to work for you and your use cases.

    @zfilin

    In our team all subprojects inherit right access from toplevel project.
    Also, trackers, statuses, etc. are identical from toplevel project.
    The difference between the subprojects is in the list of active modules.

    @zfilin Same way. And we use it for 1C:Enterprise too :)

    I've added some support for subprojects in v2.2.0. You can test it by fetching new versions (git fetch --tags) and checkout the new version (git checkout v2.2.0) (or download tar from https://github.com/jgraichen/redmine_dashboard/releases). I'd love to get some feedback about it.

    There is a new option in the "Options" drop-down menu to enable subprojects.

    Subprojects work well.
    But does not work drag-and-drop after the upgrade.
    Inscription "Loading ..." is displayed for a long time and does not end.

    @zfilin Can you provide the Redmine log when your problem occurred?

    Does drag-and-drop not work with enabled subprojects or does it not work at all?

  15. zfilin commented on Mar 10, 2014

    @zfilin

    Drag-and-drop does not work only when I try to drag the task status to "Closed".
    I have two status "closed": 1. Executed 2. Canceled. ()

    When subprojects included and without.

    @zfilin Thanks. Found the error. I've pushed a fix on master branch. Can you please check if that resolves your error. I will then push a new version tag.

    Yeah-ah-ah! Problem solved, drag-and-drop works well. Thank you!
