Hello Strava!

-
I'm a 2008 graduate of Griffith university's Bachelor of Multimedia majoring in Internet Computing. I'm currently working for ABC News where I'm responsible for the front end of all News' websites including TV and radio broadcast news programs. More importantly, I love working on my own projects in my free time. I'm a commuting and competitive cyclist and huge Strava user (I even have a bunch of KOMs in my local area).

-
The personal project I've spent most time on recently is Frugal Rouleur. It's a service that searches across some of the biggest online cycling stores to find you the best price. I developed the whole thing from back-end to design. It's backed by the Ruby Sinatra framework which provides a private API to my JavaScript. The design is mine with HTML written in HAML and CSS in SASS. I love working with this stack and I love working on a project every step of the way.

-
I made Darkroom with the same stack and used it again for the heavy-lifting back-end component of Tumblr Themr. A little while ago I was behind the desktop-like UI of Campus Notes which is unfortunately no longer being actively developed. Some of my other code can be found on my Github profile.

-
For the past two and a half years my time at the ABC has been spent in a small development and design team. As is the structure at a big corporation I played a small part in a number of projects. The nature of working for a news organisation is that work is often dictated by random events with tight deadlines. I was the developer of the ABC's most popular online content in history: Brisbane floods: Before and after which has since been named as a finalist in this year's Walkley Awards, Australia's highest journalism accolade.

We use jQuery heavily at the ABC and I use it in all my personal projects. I have a lot of experience with SQL and the Ruby DataMapper library. I love Ruby and use it as my language of choice for web projects and small scripting tasks. I have a lot of experience with Sinatra, HAML and SASS but little with Rails.

-
A couple of other things I work on: A Solid Base and my blog, Valhalla Island which has been running in one form or another for around 6 years now.

I'm a huge cycling and bike nerd, my apartment is overflowing with bikes and wheels in various states of completeness. I love riding and love racing. I've been commuting by bike since selling my car after graduating three years ago and I've been racing on the local crit, road and time trial scene for around two years. I was a Garmin Connect user before fairly recently moving to Strava which fills every gap Garmin Connect was missing plus some. That's not to say there's areas I'd love to improve it even further.
