Would it be possible to add support for xdelta to understand .iso image
file structure? I regular make CD images that differ in fewer than 5% of
their files and this would produce much smaller deltas if the similar file
structure could be seen and acted upon.

This is a fine idea.  I'd like to investigate this after the next highest 
priority
feature request (better dealing with identical inputs) is addressed.
