Hi,

since becoming excited about the capabilities of XlsxWriter I've started using it for creating more and more complex data visualizations in Excel that I could never have done manually. Great work! Thanks for that!

My use case is that my charts contain some "verified data" and some "estimated data". I would like to visualize this by using the "pattern fill" for some of the data series. When I do this manually it looks quite nice.

pattern_style

XlsxWriter allows coloring the columns conveniently, supporting "solid fill" or "gradient fill" styles. Would it be possible to add the "pattern styles" as well?

This seems to be the spec of how such patterns are done:
http://www.officeopenxml.com/drwSp-PattFill.php .

Thanks for looking into this.

Simon

Hi Simon,

I'll look into it to see how much work is involved.

John.

@simonxs just to let you know that this kind of thing is now possible with openpyxl which now more or less completely exposes the underlying ChartDrawing API (not as nicely packaged as XlsxWriter).

This is not particularly intuitive so you're likely to need to work backwards from an existing file with specification close to hand.
