We meet at His request and for His pleasure. </p><p style="margin-left:0.25in;" class="MsoBodyText"><b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;">John 4:23-24</span></i></b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;"> "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.</span></i></p><p></p><p style="margin-left:0.25in;" class="MsoBodyText"><span style="font-size:9pt;">(NASB is used throughout).</span></p><p></p> <br><span><span>2. </span></span><b>The Breaking of Bread service</b> is a special time for believers to honor the Lord Jesus Christ and to worship God. It appears to have been the central meeting of the early church, and so it is with us. It is called by several names in the New Testament including the breaking of bread, communion, the Lords table, and the Lords supper. P</span>ersonal Preparation before the Service</span></span></span></a></h1><p style="text-indent:-0.25in;margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><span><span>A.<span> </span></span></span><b>Prepare to worship during the week.</b> Make note of special insights you have learned about the Lord from Scripture, devotionals, prayer times, etc., and be ready to thank the Lord for these during the meeting. These will be part of your praise offering.</p><p style="margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;">Heb. 13:15</span></i></b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;"> Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.</span></i></p><p></p><p style="text-indent:-0.25in;margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><a name="_Ref68363611"><span><span>B.<span> </span></span></span><b>Examine yourself spiritually before coming.</b> Confess known sin and ask for Gods forgiveness. Come with a clean conscience. If you are involved in strife with another person, you should make every effort to reconcile with that person before coming to offer your worship to God.</a></p><p style="margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;">1 John 1:9</span></i></b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;"> If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.</span></i></p><p></p><p style="margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;">Matt. 5:23-24</span></i></b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;"> If therefore you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar, and go your way; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering.</span></i></p><p></p><p style="text-indent:-0.25in;margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><span><span>C.<span> </span></span></span><b>Plan to arrive early out of respect for the Lord and your Christian family.</b> You have an appointment with the Lord Jesus Himself and with your brothers and sisters in Him. We obey the Scriptures that govern order in the church, including the command that the women are not to teach or exercise authority over the men in the church but are to remain silent. We interpret these to mean that only the men (for CBC 16 years and older), as prompted by the Holy Spirit, are to lead in prayer, propose a hymn, publicly read and explain Scripture, or share publicly during this meeting.</p><p></p><p></p><p style="margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;">Gal. 3:28</span></i></b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;"> There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.</span></i></p><p></p><p style="margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;">1 Tim. 2:11-12</span></i></b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;"> Let a woman quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. Those who come only to get can find this meeting boring. Those who come prepared and give their worship to the Lord will be refreshed and blessed. We encourage the whole family including the children to prepare and attend, believing that even the children can be taught appropriate forms of worship and conduct.</a></p><p style="margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;">Rom. 15:5-7</span></i></b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;"> Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus; that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Leaders should speak loudly, clearly, and briefly enough so that all in the meeting can understand and stay involved. We honor God by listening attentively and eagerly responding to the Lord in our hearts.</p><p style="margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;">1 Cor. 14:9</span></i></b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;"> So also you, unless you utter by the tongue speech that is clear, how will it be known what is spoken? For you will be speaking into the air.</span></i></p><p></p><p style="margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;">Psalm 9:1-2</span></i></b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;"> I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart; I will tell of all Thy wonders. The purpose of each scripture, hymn, prayer, or message should be to glorify the Lord and to exalt His name. It is not a time to make missionary appeals or reports. It is not a time to bring prayer requests. Each of these good and necessary activities is more appropriately conducted at another time. Even the hymns should be considered for appropriateness.</a></p><p style="margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;">1 Cor. </span></i></b><b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;">14:40</span></i></b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;"> But let all things be done properly and in an orderly manner.</span></i></p><p></p><h1><a name="_Toc68444495"><span><span>3.<span> </span></span></span>The Breaking of Bread</a> </h1><h1></h1><p style="text-indent:-0.25in;margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><span><span>A.<span> </span></span></span><b>We are obeying the Lord Jesus</b> who commanded us to remember Him and proclaim His death and His promised return for us by breaking the bread which represents His body and drinking the cup which represents His blood. Our purpose for being quiet while the bread and cup are being passed around is to allow each individual to personally concentrate on remembering the Lord Jesus Christ.</p><p style="margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;">1 Cor. 11:24-26</span></i></b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;"> and when He had given thanks, He broke it, and said, This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me. In the same way He took the cup also, after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me. For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lords death until He comes.</span></i></p><p></p><p style="text-indent:-0.25in;margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><span><span>B.<span> </span></span></span><b>Inappropriately participating in the breaking of bread and drinking the cup will result in judgment.</b></p><p></p><p></p><p style="margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;">1 Cor. 11:27-32</span></i></b><i></i><i><span style="font-size:9pt;">Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. Communion does not imply a repeated sacrifice of Christ; it commemorates a completed work.</p><p style="margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;">Titus 3:5</span></i></b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;"> He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,</span></i></p><p></p><p style="margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;">Heb. 10:10-12</span></i></b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;"> By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins; but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God,</span></i></p><p></p><p style="text-indent:-0.25in;margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><span><span>D.<span> </span></span></span><b>Our primary purpose and desire</b> is to worship the Lord together and to enjoy our time of fellowship with Him as we fulfill His desire that we remember Him.</p><p style="margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;">Ps. 100 </span></i></b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;"><span> </span>Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth. Serve the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful singing. Know that the Lord Himself is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name. for the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting and His faithfulness to all generations.</span></i></p><p></p><h1><a name="_Toc68444496"><span><span>4.<span> </span></span></span>The Giving of Offerings</a></h1><h1></h1><p style="text-indent:-0.25in;margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><span><span>A.<span> </span></span></span>We cheerfully give our offerings as part of our worship.</p><p style="margin-left:0.5in;" class="MsoBodyText"><b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;">2 Cor. 9:6-8</span></i></b><i><span style="font-size:9pt;"> Now this I say, he who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly; and he who sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully. Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver.
