We have also sound-houses, where we practise and demonstrate all sounds, and their generation. We have harmonies which you have not, of quarter-sounds, and lesser slides of sounds. Divers instruments of music likewise to you unknown, some sweeter than any you have, together with bells and rings that are dainty and sweet. We represent small sounds as great and deep; likewise great sounds extenuate and sharp; we make divers tremblings and warblings of sounds, which in their original are entire. We represent and imitate all articulate sounds and letters, and the voices and notes of beasts and birds. We have certain helps which set to the ear do further the hearing greatly. We have also divers strange and artificial echoes, reflecting the voice many times, and as it were tossing it: and some that give back the voice louder than it came, some shriller, and some deeper; yea, some rendering the voice differing in the letters or articulate sound from that they receive. We have also means to convey sounds in trunks and pipes, in strange lines and distances.

New Atlantis is a shared (multi-user) online virtual world dedicated to audio experimentation and practice. Unlike most online worlds where image is the primary concern, in New Atlantis sound comes first.
New Atlantis is built around a few concepts :
A space is a container for objects. Space has nothing inside at start, and has an unlimited size.
An asset/object is any Unity3D object exported as an Asset Bundle, and that a user can export to his/her Assets library. Once put into a space at a given position/orientation/scale, we refer to it as an Object. Objects can be small or big, simple or complex. You can set one of your asset as public, so that everyone will be able to see it and use it in his/her own space.
To Visit a New Atlantis Space, you use the Main New Atlantis application called the Viewer. The application can be used in several modes :
- in standalone, you simply visit a space alone.
- in server mode, you host a session, meaning that another Viewer somewhere in the world can connect to your session and you can perform together.
- in client mode, you look for existing sessions and you are able to join a server session and perform with other visitors.

One of the first usage is to simply visit existing Spaces or creating new Spaces from existing public Assets. If you want to go further, you can use Unity 5 and the New Atlantis SDK to design and build new objects.
