Kilns is a programming language based on the kell calculus. In addition to managed memory, it also has managed concurrency and managed networking. It is a "higher-order" distributed programming language, which means that running processes can be paused and resumed, or even moved between machines.

Disclaimer

The language is still in the early stages of development. Much functionality is missing, syntax and semantics are in flux, performance is something that hasn't been paid any attention, and it'll probably crash a lot.

Building

The current implementation is written in Common Lisp. If you have a lisp installed and the requisite libraries (Bordeaux Threads, CL Unification, IOLib, etc.), poking at the build-application.* scripts should get you going.

Building for Lisp Newbs

Get a copy of CCL using macports: sudo port install ccl

You may need to modify the build-applicaiton.sh to point to ccl properly. Change it to: /opt/local/share/ccl/1.5/dx86cl64 --load "build-application"

Add quicklisp to the kilns directory (http://www.quicklisp.org/beta/)

Try running the build-application.sh, it will error out, just type :POP

Then the following: (ql:quickload "bordeaux-threads") (ql:quickload "cl-unification") (ql:add-to-init-file)

Press enter when promped. The (ql:add-to-init-file) will make it so you don't have to go through the rigama-roll all over again.

To get out of the lisp interpreter, type (quit)

Then try running the build-application.sh script again!
