Drome Engine 0.4.4 (December 19, 2010) ABOUT ----- Drome Engine is a 3D game engine that's written in C++ and uses OpenGL for graphics rendering. It is available under a BSD-style license (see the "COPYING" file that's included with Drome Engine for more information). The latest version of Drome Engine can be found at: http://joshbeam.com/software/drome_engine/ FEATURES -------- Some of Drome Engine's features include: - GLSL shader support - Particle effects - PNG and PCX image loading - TrueType font loading and rendering - Parsing of simple XML data - Simple physics - Resource management with reference counting that causes unused resources (such as textures) to be removed from memory automatically PLATFORMS --------- Drome Engine has been developed and tested on the following operating systems: - Mac OS X - Arch Linux REQUIREMENTS ------------ The following optional tools/libraries are required in order to use certain features of Drome Engine: - CMake - http://www.cmake.org/ Required to build on some platforms. - OpenGL or OpenGL ES - http://www.opengl.org/ Required for all OpenGL-based graphics functionality. - libpng - http://www.libpng.org/ Required for loading PNG images on platforms other than Mac OS X and iOS. - FreeType2 - http://www.freetype.org/ Required for TrueType font loading on platforms other than Mac OS X and iOS. - SDL - http://www.libsdl.org/ Required for window creation and input handling on platforms other than Mac OS X and iOS. Drome Engine is built as a set of static libraries by default, so any program that statically links the engine should also link (dynamically or statically) with the applicable libraries listed above. COMPILING --------- Drome Engine uses the CMake build system. You can compile it by running the following commands from within the root directory of the Drome Engine source: $ mkdir build $ cd build $ cmake .. && make When the compilation is complete, a demo application called DromeDemo can be found in the demo directory inside the build directory that you created. There is also a shell script called run.sh in the root directory of the Drome Engine source that can be executed to automatically build Drome Engine and run the DromeDemo application. Drome Engine also includes Xcode projects for Mac OS X and iOS in the xcode_mac and xcode_ios directories, respectively.
