Uninstalling Node.js if installed from #4058

I installed Node.js + npm using the Mac installer on the website ( What is the best way to completely remove Node.js, npm, and any other dependencies? Want a complete clean uninstall.

Any one have some information on this or a guide I could be pointed to?

@isaacs is most qualified to comment on this - he is the one who builds the .pkg and besides, he runs OS X - but I think it's a matter of simply running rm -fr /usr/local/bin/{node,npm} /usr/local/lib/node_modules/

Thanks for the advice, @bnoordhuis. @isaacs — any advice for a n00b like me on a full Node.js + npm uninstall?

This should do it:

sudo rm -rf /usr/local/{bin/{node,npm},lib/node_modules/npm,lib/node,share/man/*/node.*}

If you have the node source code, you can also run sudo make uninstall on the v0.8 branch, and that'll do it.

I would add this to isaacs' command line: sudo rm -Rf /usr/local/lib/dtrace/node.d; sudo rm -Rf /usr/local/include/node

I also had to change the owner and group for the /usr/local/lib directory (which for me contained only the dtrace directory). Otherwise, when I try to install node again using homebrew, homebrew is unable to create the symlink in the /usr/local/lib/dtrace directory, as the owner is still wheel.
