Can you please provide a demo page and specifics on what version of Android you're seeing this on? Selects seem to be working on our test devices.
For example, does this page work:
http://jsbin.com/alayo3/

But is my simple demo page above working on these devices? How about this demo page for selects?
http://jquerymobile.com/test/docs/forms/forms-selects.html

If these work, it's something with your custom scripting or markup.

Closing because we havent' heard a response, but we can re-open if this can be confirmed with a simple, clear test page. Please post a test page with JSBin.

We're still having problems reproducing this on all 3 of out Android 2.2 devices (HTC Incredible, Droid, Nook color) so I'm not sure how to proceed. If this isn't working, it's a big issue.

I think Dennsch's bug is a bit different: for him, the native menu is not working. For me, the jquerymobile-custom menu was freezing the interface, so I switched to native menus. Unfortunately, I can't provide more feedback on this issue since I don't have a device right now.

I am reproducing this on Android 2.2 and 2.3 - but the examples on JQuery Mobile site work fine. I cannot open a native select menu on my site. There is minimal markup, etc. The only thing I can think is something with ASP.Net stuff.

I am also having this issue with native select menu on Galaxy S, using the latest build (http://code.jquery.com/mobile/latest/...). When I tap the select item, none of the options appear.

Seems to work fine on HTC Incredible, HTC Desire, Moto Droid and iOS devices. Only having the problem on the Samsung Galaxy.

Here is a simple test page which reproduces the error:
http://html-bin.appspot.com/aghodG1sLWJpbnIMCxIEUGFnZRiKngMM

The test/demos don't work either (http://jquerymobile.com/test/docs/forms/forms-selects.html).

We made a tweak to make the selects work with Firefox so that is all I can think of that's changed recently. Can you all reply with the OS versions each device is running so we can try to reproduce?

The device I am running into the issue with is:
ATT Galaxy S, Firmware version 2.2.

Incidentally, I have a co-worker with a US Cellular Galaxy S and on that device it seems to work okay. The US Cellular Galaxy S is Firmware version 2.2.1.

Fun! Not sure how to even track this one down. Android is so inconsistent across devices. Anyway, if you have a clue why this is happening, please report back here. My guess is it's the opacity we use on the native select that is causing this to not be clickable.

Yes, it does appear to be the opacity. In commit 198ca91, the ".ui-select .ui-btn select" class was changed from "opacity: 0;" to "opacity: 0.0001;". When I add the following style override, it will work properly on the ATT Galaxy S native browser:

<style type="text/css">
.ui-select .ui-btn select { opacity: 0; }
</style>

However, this breaks firefox mobile. So I then changed the override to the following, and it seems to work in the native and firefox browser:

<style type="text/css">
.ui-select .ui-btn select { opacity: 0; }
@-moz-document url-prefix() {.ui-select .ui-btn select { opacity: 0.0001; }}
</style>

I'm not sure how comfortable you are with this solution, there may be a better way to do this. But if you like, I will create a branch in my fork and submit a pull request.

It doesn't look like today's latest has fixed it. I've opened up Issue #2066 and that has a link to a jsbin test page that will recreate the issue on both Android 2.2 and 2.3 - although not on 2.1.

I'm having the same issue here, http://beta.surveys.dmagazine.com/bestofbigd2011-foodanddrink/vote?mobile=true. Clearly my markup is a little more complicated, but it's the same problem with no solution other than to use the non-native menu, which has pretty serious perf issues on a page this complex.

If I pull the form tag off the page, everything works fine. But, it's clearly a form, so that doesn't help much.

Any ideas?

@randylsu - It's not that the form can't be there, it's just that it can cause problems when it's the parent of the page wrapper. Can you put the form tag inside the content container?

Thanks, Todd. We launched our JQM-powered mobile site about a yr ago, and it's been a big hit. The homepage is a on a subd, http://mobile.dmagazine.com/, but everything else runs on the same urls as the main site w/ MVC serving up mobile pages. We'll probably be going responsive for our CMS content in the next few months instead of fully mobile though.

On the select issue, though, my form IS inside the page & content wrappers in that sample. Any other ideas?

Ah, cool. So selects on Android are super fragile with CSS and we've had all sorts of issues with seemingly unrelated CSS properties like overflow, position, etc. on parent elements completely killing the native menu.

Since your page is pretty styled up, I'd recommend going through a process of elimination on each css property to see what's causing the issue, then try to re-approach. I'd start by having a pretty standard jQM select in the page to first see if that works ok. If not, there are CSS properties higher up that are causing issues that you could start cutting out. If that's ok, start moving inwards and eventually you'll find something you're doing in the styles is causing the issue. Could be anything. I seriously hate Android's browser.

I am, too, having these issues with Android 2.2 and 2.3. Our markup is somewhat complex and heavily styled. Will keep banging on it...

I had the same issue as well... check in your css for "webkit-backface-visibility" property...(page css)
It suppose to be set to "visible" as default...unless you've changed it to "hidden" somewhere...android native menu won't
work with "hidden"

Hello, i am having the same issue again on another site.

I am testing it on Atrix, Android 2.3.6

I am going crazy trying to figure out if it is any z-index or div problem...

Here is a snnipet:

< body>
< div data-role="page" data-theme="b" data-transition="slide">
< div data-theme="a" data-role="header" id="header">
< a data-role="none" data-direction="reverse" data-rel="back" data-transition="fade" href="page1" class="header-back">< /a>
< h3 class="headerH3">< img src="/Images/header-icon.jpg"/ height="45">< /h3>
< a data-role="none" data-transition="fade" href="/Account/LogOff" class="header-home">< /a>
< /div>
< div data-role="content" id="content">
< div id="wrapper">

< link href="/css/Entries.css" type="text/css" rel="Stylesheet"/>

It's definitely related to a z-index or fixed-position div issue. On Android 2.3.5 (Evo 4G), I get the same issue. I have a < div> just after the page div. It's CSS includes position: fixed; z-index: 100;. The select problem occurs (and makes the header bar disappear when selecting). If I remove the position: fixed, the problem disappears. BTW, I do not have the problem on other platforms including Android 4. Also, the select was working previously until I made changes to another section of the page (involving a JS-created listview). Good luck. :)

Hi, yes i think it might be something like that, but a i am not being able to get it working.

The select reacts when i touch it but the native selection options arnet apearing.

Something i discovered is that when i commented the Theme CSS, the select worked, so is something in the template (i downloaded it from the JQM theme generator).

Regards!

Select menu problem persists. Sorry to say. This time, it's with an Android 2.3.6 on Samsung Galazy S2. Native menu looks and acts fine ... except no events will fire. Problem is the same on this device using Firefox. No problem on iPhone, iPad, Firefox on PC, Chrome on PC. Non-native menu is very unstable, closes spontaneously, chooses item other than what user clicked. Example: http://dendritics.com/metal-calc
