Overlay panel increases viewport width in iPad #5089

Hi,

I was viewing this page on an iPad:

http://jquerymobile.com/test/docs/pages/popup/popup-panels.html

There is an issue in that when the overlay panel is rendered, the viewport increases in width and there is dead space to the right-hand side equal to the width of the panel.

I don't see the issue replicated on Chrome or FF, and the panel is positioned absolutely so it shouldn't be mucking up the document flow, but there is obviously some quirk with Safari Mobile.

I've just tested on iPad 2 iOS 5.1.1 and I cannot see that "dead space".

It works perfect with safari in portrait and landscape view.

Hi,

Find a screenshot attached. On my iPad, I don't see the dead space unless you start dragging the page over.

@chrisahardie

I can confirm this issue, but have no idea yet what adds the width of the panel to the page width.
There will be a new widget "sliding panels" in 1.3 (see #5163) and that's a much better way to get a panel like we shown in that popup example. You won't see this issue with this new widget (I already tested it).
For 1.3 we will also renew the docs and the popup panel example won't return.
I think it has more use to invest time in good demos for the new panel widget, than fixing this issue so I am closing this ticket if you don't mind. When I find out what was causing it, I will post here.
