Eric has given us permission to use http://www.erichynds.com/jquery/using-deferreds-in-jquery/ -- it just needs to be incorporated. I've verified that this hasn't been integrated as yet.

Some quick notes we can file as separate tickets or work on at some point:
*We should probably mention http://api.jquery.com/deferred.always/
*Check to ensure nothing major has changed with the deferreds docs since 1.5
*Add some further practical examples.

@peol I know that you're currently working on an up to date piece about Deferreds for your site. Do you think between your post and the work @jaubourg and I did for http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/scriptjunkie/gg723713 that we could come up with something comprehensive that could work for this issue?

peol commented Mar 14, 2012

Absolutely! I didn't even know you guys wrote that (some research I've done, huh?)!

What did you have in mind? My post isn't nearly as comprehensive as the one on MSDN, maybe I should just drop mine and we can re-work that one instead? I didn't think to go through promises that much, in my book they're pretty much just a read-only version of a deferred so if the user knows what a deferred is and what it can do, promises should be pretty easy to understand.

I haven't really looked at how you're planning learn.jquery.com to work, will it be straight up articles or smaller "chapters" á la PluralSight?

Totally okay! We're thinking articles (of varying length). Some of them will be relatively mid-sized whilst (where we can) we're going to go into a lot more detail. I totally don't mind us reworking the deferred post Julian and I wrote. If you'd like to throw the content into a gist (we're going to need to convert back to markdown, let me know if you need any help with this - this helps http://johnmacfarlane.net/pandoc/try), we can start pointing out areas that could either be extended or reworked accordingly :)
