Quickstart guide for Linux testing

Ravenports requires bootstrapping on each supported platform. Currently it has been bootstrapped for DragonFly, FreeBSD64 and Linux x86_64.

Quickstep 1. Obtain bootstrap pkg(8) for Linux

A static version of pkg(8) has been built for glibc 2.6.32-based Linuxen. It has been prepackaged along with an initial configuration file to allow for quick installation. To obtain the tarball:

wget http://www.ravenports.com/repository/raven-linux-bootstrap.tar.gz

Quickstep 2: Extract contents

To extract the contents to /raven:

sudo tar -C / -xzf raven-linux-bootstrap.tar.gz

Quickstep 3. Fetch repository information

sudo /raven/sbin/pkg-static upgrade

Quickstep 4. Add /raven to sudo paths

Edit /etc/sudoers secure_path to add /raven directories, e.g.

Defaults secure_path = /sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/raven/sbin:/raven/bin

Quickstep 5. Install Ravenports metaport

sudo /raven/sbin/pkg-static install -y ravenports-single-linux

Quickstep 6. Configure Ravenadm

sudo /raven/bin/ravenadm configure

The default configuration should be okay. Just hit RETURN key.

Quickstep 7. Get latest version of ravenports

sudo /raven/bin/ravenadm update-ports

Quickstep 8. Try building some port

sudo /raven/bin/ravenadm build libxml2
sudo /raven/bin/ravenadm build less:color

That should result in functional Ravenports build system.
