We'll be moving to Meetup (see #42), this issue is to work out the initial events that we'll start with.

October TBC

(tbc) - @spikeheap, do you want to have this meet? Maybe you could give #44?

November 27th

I think the 27th might be good, it's the day after geek night - which would let us pitch there about it.

React - @richdouglasevans @noraesae

(@richdouglasevans @noraesae - are you happy with giving talks on these dates?)

Chat

I've got this idea for having a guided chat with the group - if we've got time I'd really like to give it a go

December TBC

@peterjwest did you want to have a hold a hack day?

January 22nd

TBC

February 19th

TBC

Ah - @spikeheap - I just read your email properly and you were suggesting that we could have one at the end of this month too?

I've updated this quite a lot, rather than a single meetup - I think this is the events we should stub out when we switch over to meetup.

Also - I'm thinking that it might be a good idea to have people own particular events (though still discuss/supported by us all). BristolJS do this - and I think it makes it a bit more scalable and lets us organise stuff further in advance.

Sounds awesome, 👍 to everything.

A talk at the end of October might be a bit short notice so let's roll it into the Nov talks.

For December I think there's a definite need for mulled wine and mince pies, because we don't get enough of those around Christmas...

Following on from discussions on twitter I'm up for having a go at giving a talk.

@spikeheap

Awesome, me too (#44) if there's time.

In the spirit of AYB and de-Monty-ising ourselves, any ideas on how we can get a more gender-diverse lineup/audience for the Nov meetup?

Don't be silly, girls don't like javascript

I'm kidding of course. EVERYONE LOVES JAVASCRIPT :)

@noraesae

I'd really love to give a talk. I may (really) need some help on my English, though. If @richdouglasevans is happy with the schedule, there's no problem for me :)

@peterjwest

Awesome! I'm happy to help with English if you'd like.

Everybody loves Javascript and everybody hates Javascript. 😃

@julianah

I'm up for giving a talk too on @angularjs

@richdouglasevans

Ooh, I smell an AngularJS bake off in the air 🍰

Where did all these people come from? Is JS Oxford now popular?

@richdouglasevans

Pete, OxfordJS has always been popular. I'd rate it second only to Ben's excellent monthly macramé classes at Darn It & Stitch. (Oh, the things Ben can do with a hook and a mess of wool!)

Also, I heard that Ryan said that Ben told him that Chris promised free 🍩's for all attendees.

What is happening

@richdouglasevans

@spikeheap is engaging a purple seabass. Thar she blows!

In other news, I'll hash out a presentation skeleton on AngularJS with @lazywithclass on Saturday afternoon at the weekly JavaScript hackathons in central Oxford. The world must surely be tired of "edgy" AngularJS talks, so I'll wait for your approval of the skeleton before committing full bore to a presentation in November.

RIGHT

I've finally actually done this - http://www.meetup.com/JSOxford/

EVERYONE JOIN! I'll sign us all up as organisers (let me know if you just want to kick back and be organised instead), and we can plonk in some events tomorrow.

We might have some extra credits for other meetup groups, so @richdouglasevans perhaps we could get some more people along to those macramé classes to appreciate our owls

Really looking forward to this

Woo!

Macaroni owl?

I'm excited. And stuff. Great work with Meetup Ben, it feels kind of proper now.

@richdouglasevans it would be worth talking to @julianah about his potential Angular talk – it would be awesome to have a bit of a theme.

@richdouglasevans

Yeah, nice one Ben! Lovin' those owls. 😄

@spikeheap Good suggestion. @julianah and I are deep in discussion about AngularJS: I will lobby hard for the inclusion of macramé but I make no promises.

@lazywithclass

AngularJS? With me? lol I didn't know that :D

This Saturday, as the previous, I'll be at Starbucks in Oxford pretending to code... we can defintely talk about it.
There should also be a colleague of mine.

I'll be there since 11am or so.

I'm heading to Mozilla Festival this weekend if anyone else is heading there feel free to hola.

Hoping to hack a way at a side project that I plan on talking about at one of these meetups. 😃

am I right in thinking that I need to create a separate ticket/issue for my talk 'proposal'?

@richdouglasevans

AngularJS? With me? lol I didn't know that :D

Hehe, I phrased that poorly. I meant that I will be at Starbucks at the same time as you are: you'll be working on your AWS JS stuff, and I will be working on my JS talk proposal. There may be some fruitful overlap.

Cool! I'll be there for Alberto's JavaScript Allongé, which is quite quickly becoming an Oxford institution.

@tomlane - yup, raising an issue would be perfect - makes it really easy to manage.

I've scheduled a meetup - http://www.meetup.com/JSOxford/events/214987582/ - with the following organisers:

(just realised I haven't assigned anything to me… oh well!)

It's not been announced yet, @richdouglasevans - can you update the copy. I think the group gets announced in 2 days (unless we do so before)

I'm not sure exactly where we are content wise, do we have a single angular js talk? I'd be able to head up a group conversation about something, or give a talk if we need it.

@noraesae

If there's a slot, I'd still like to give a talk about React. I may need lots of help and practice, though.

@richdouglasevans

If there's a slot, I'd still like to give a talk about React.

@noraesae Sure.

I may need lots of help and practice, though.

If I can help, just tell me how. (Copy-editing, meeting up in Oxford one night for practice runs, etc.) If you have a title and short description for your talk, send it to me. (I can write the polished copy if you just send me a rough idea.)

@richdouglasevans

@richdouglasevans - gathering/writing content for the talk description

I'm on it.

I'm not sure exactly where we are content wise, do we have a single angular js talk?

So far we have one talk on the topic of AngularJS. (Blurb coming soon.) @julianah and I discussed our talk ideas and we're going to fold them into a single talk with Julian on point. @noraesae probably has a talk: I'll confirm that today and if so, get the blurb up on the meetup page.

I'd be able to head up a group conversation about something, or give a talk if we need it.

Likewise.

@richdouglasevans

In the spirit of AYB and de-Monty-ising ourselves, any ideas on how we can get a more gender-diverse lineup/audience for the Nov meetup?

I've been thinking about this and discussing it at work. I'm all 👍 for this, but... I don't know what concrete actions I can take. Like Fraser Crane, I'm listening, but that's all I've got.

@spikeheap
Contributor

@richdouglasevans that's kind of where I've been at. I've got a contact for the University's equality and diversity unit so might be able to get the word out that way.

We can also make an effort to touch base with the Girl Geeks, particularly to see if any of them would like to do a talk.

@noraesae

@richdouglasevans I'll send today. Thanks!

@spikeheap

A couple of ideas for getting the word out (thanks to Oxford University for these):

I'll get in touch with them to spread the word.

@richdouglasevans

@richdouglasevans - gathering/writing content for the talk description

Done.

I will spread the word and help folk with their talks. Tap me up if there's anything else I can do.

Great work on the meetup content @richdouglasevans - that's the event announced. Sounds really really properly interesting talks - looking forward to it.

@spikeheap great shout. I'll drop a mail to the oxford girl geeks too.

Nice work everyone! See you next month.
