The key shift+enter works for me. However, it is default bind to "Julia: Execute Code Cell" , which can be seen in the "Keyboard Shortcuts" list (Ctrl+k, Ctrl+s to open the list) .
You can set your own key shortcuts for "Julia: execute file" as suggested in #1075 , which is blank for default in my case

Recording a few minor points from a Slack discussion yesterday:

1. The reason for swapping out F5 from "Run File in REPL" to starting the debugger is that F5 by default is reserved for debugging in VSCode.

2. A new keyboard shortcut for "Run File in REPL" should not alias with one of the many other existing default keybindings in VSCode.

3. This poses somewhat of a challenge since there is a lot (~690) of these default bindings (accessible from Ctrl+Shift+P → Preferences: Open Default Keyboard Shortcuts (JSON) or at this gist):

   • F[1-12], Shift+F[3-5,7-12], and Ctrl+F[2-5,12] are already used. I.e. the otherwise "natural" alternative of Shift+F5 is not available.

@davidanthoff mentioned that some variation with Enter might eventually be possible:

The other idea would be some combination with Enter.
Because that already runs stuff in the REPL... But I think there is not much left there either
But I think we can only do that once the language server starts up more quickly so that Alt+Enter works right away without any delay. And for that we need to ship a statically compiled version of the LS. That is on the roadmap, but won't happen overnight...
We could at some point get rid of the Ctrl+Enter and Alt+Enter distinction we have right now, that would free up one combination

I thought #1221 was specifically not concerned with bindings/shortcuts?

This is an attempt to come up with a more or less comprehensive list of commands we should have for code execution. I'm leaving out key bindings for now, I think that is a complicated topic we can tackle later ...

Either way, so long there's some place to track the shortcut point it isn't important where it's tracked.
