Jld2 preview in vscode?

I use JLD2.jl to store simulation results which I find pretty convenient.

I wonder if there is a plan to add a preview/explorer feature for this type of file in vscode.

If I were to build the JLD2 side of things, what would be needed for a frontend?
I feel that a collapsible tree-view like structure probably won't have to be built from the bottom up -
but I have no experience with vscode extension development.

VS Code provides a UI component for tree views and the Julia extension has a table viewer, so we'd only need a little bit of plumbing for everything to work together. Ideally we'd also split out the relevant code from the extension into a library (both on the JS and JL side).

So finally attempted this yesterday.
I got the development version of the julia extension working and tried to inject a bit of code here and there.
However, after a few hours I decided that I know too little about extension development (nothing) and have zero previous experience with JS / TS.

I'm still happy to help building the JLD2 interface if someone takes over here

https://github.com/silx-kit/vscode-h5web H5web is a lovely HDF5 reader in vscode that I've frequently used. It supports many formats other than .h5 and is open to extensions. I wonder if anyone can work on the JLD2 reader with h5web?

H5Web dev here 👋

We are making some effort to bring support of JLD2 into H5Web (and therefore in the H5Web VSCode extension). We fixed the issue mentioned above by @hz-xiaxz and I could open a basic JLD2 file without problem using the main branch of H5Web.

But before we do a release, I'd like to test a more "real-world" file.

@LaurentPlagne Would you mind providing a test file ? Else, you could try to use our demo (https://h5web.panosc.eu/h5wasm) to view one of your files and tell us how it went.
