Having only the domain verified is OK, if you would like to use an email address that uses a subdomain, but for whatever silly reason, you cannot submit this subdomain to be verified - only the domain. Sounds easy enough, but there's actually no easy way to parse out a domain from a subdomain, without having the list of TLD's that are valid. Sigh! This module does it:

https://metacpan.org/pod/Domain::PublicSuffix

And uses this list to do it:

http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/netwerk/dns/effective_tld_names.dat?raw=1

We would have to implement this module in order to truly work around this issue.
