ArchiveExtractor

Extract and publish the archives... for the lulz.

##Description

ArchiveExtractor v. 0.0.1 enables Chrome users to extract Gchat messages and post them to social media or blogging platforms (such as Twitter).

##Overview

ArchiveExtractor comprises the following:

  • A Google Chrome extension that listens for keywords in the active window and opens a dialogue box when heard. The default keywords are '#archive' and '#archived'. The dialogue box contents default to the two most recent chatMessages in the active Gchat window. They may be edited prior to clicking submit.

  • A Node.js web application that accepts submissions from the Google Chrome extension and routes them to the appropriate social media or blogging platform via the associated API.

##Dependencies

See package.json.

##Installation

  1. Download the chrome_extension directory.
  2. Open Google Chrome. In Settings => Tools => Extensions, ensure that "Developer mode" is checked.
  3. Select "Load unpacked extension..." and select the chrome_extension directory. Make sure the "Enable" box is checked.
  4. You should see the ArchiveExtractor icon in the upper-right corner of your Chrome window. Open Gmail, start a Gchat session, and click the ArchiveExtractor icon.
