I'm trying to test that one of my controllers has hidesBackButton set on its navigationItem using stepToWaitForAbsenceOfViewWithAccessibilityLabel. However, even though hidesBackButton is correctly set and so the back button isn't shown, stepToWaitForAbsenceOfViewWithAccessibilityLabel regards it as present. This seems to be because the navigation bar doesn't remove or hide it, but instead sets its frame to (0 0; 0 0).

I'm happy to write a patch but is there some particular reason why zero-size elements are counted as present?

How does VoiceOver respond to these elements?
