This would support, for starters, vi_model.nnet(). keras would be nice too!

Can leverage caret or NeuralNetTools for this. For the later, there seems to be a paper that will appear in the Journal of Statistical Software: https://github.com/fawda123/nnt_manu/blob/master/final_JSS_edits/paper.pdf.
