resize-window won't make windows shorter than some threshold #7220

Closed

Description

@fluffywaffles

Describe the bug
Depending on the size of the OS Window, there is a threshold past which Kitty will refuse to resize windows.

For me, at full-screen, that threshold is around 9 rows on a short monitor, but 17 rows on a tall monitor.

If the OS window is made smaller, the minimum number of rows can be reduced to as few as 2 (but seemingly not to 1).

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Open a Kitty terminal.
  2. Select the "splits" layout.
  3. Create a vertical split below the current window. (default ctrl+shift+enter)
  4. Resize the window to make it taller; at a certain point, it will bell or error. (for example, ctrl+shift+r to open the resize kitten, and then press t until the terminal bells)
  5. You can make the window smaller still by resizing the OS window to make it shorter instead.

Screenshots
I don't think a screenshot is particularly useful here.

    @visrosa

    I'm not sure if this is related, but on kitty 0.35.2 I can't make any window shorter than 6 columns. Is there a way to get around this limitation? I'm specifically trying to have a window that's just about two lines high.
