What happened:

  1. create cephfs storage class with external-storage
  2. create pvc of cephfs
  3. mount this pvc to a pod
  4. restart the kubelet on the node where the pod is running
  5. run kubectl exec -it to login the pod, run df, will get an error 'Transport endpoint is not connected'

What you expected to happen:

restart kubelet should not affect the pod on the same node.

How to reproduce it (as minimally and precisely as possible):

shown above.

Anything else we need to know?:

yeah.
I believe this is a bug sililar to #49640 , the ceph-fuse command should run in its own systemd scope, so the kubelet restart will not shutdown the ceph-fuse daemon.

However the code just run with os.exec, which will cause this bug.

func (cephfsVolume *cephfs) execFuseMount(mountpoint string) error {
...
	klog.V(4).Infof("Mounting cmd ceph-fuse with arguments (%s)", mountArgs)
	command := exec.Command("ceph-fuse", mountArgs...)
	output, err := command.CombinedOutput()

I have fixed this bug in my env by adding systemd-run with the command.

Environment:

  • Kubernetes version (use kubectl version): 1.11.1
  • Cloud provider or hardware configuration: no
  • OS (e.g: cat /etc/os-release): centos 7.3
  • Kernel (e.g. uname -a): 4.18
  • Install tools: na
  • Network plugin and version (if this is a network-related bug): na
  • Others:
