What happened: While attempting to run kubectl plugins I inconsistently get the error 'cannot allocate memory'

What you expected to happen: kubectl plugins can be called consistently

How to reproduce it (as minimally and precisely as possible): kubectl pluginname

Anything else we need to know?: This seems to be isolated to Microsoft WSL

Environment:

  • Kubernetes version (use kubectl version): 1.14.9, 1.15.6, 1.16.1, 1.16.6
  • Cloud provider or hardware configuration: Physical nodes and openstack nodes
  • OS (e.g: cat /etc/os-release): VERSION="18.04.3 LTS (Bionic Beaver)"
  • Kernel (e.g. uname -a): Linux l10a574 4.4.0-43-Microsoft #1-Microsoft Wed Dec 31 14:42:53 PST 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
  • Install tools:
  • Network plugin and version (if this is a network-related bug):
  • Others:
