Kyriacos Souroullas

Overview - Cover Letter

I am an aspiring developer with an active interest in all things 'Web'. I love trying out new things, whether programming languages, gadgets or the new hot startups.
My main technology interests are web based applications, startups and programming in high level languages. I am also an advocate convention over configuration.

So far dabbled in creating a programming language, dived into systems internals and read the source code for tools I use for fun and learning.

When intrigued on how something works I read through the manual and start working on project with it.
If the source for the project is available, I fire up my editor (
Vim
), create
ctags
for it and browse through the code to get a better understanding. Sometimes i will even create a simple clone of it to improve my skills and just because it's fun to do so.

Although as a 'techie' I love hardware specs, I value function more (
>
) than specs. As such I am fan of most things Apple, their Macs, iPads, iPhones.

I am a quick learner, hard and capable worker and tend not to disappoint. Whatever the task at hand I put in my best and handle it.

Experience

Lead Developer, Dueprops (.com), United States (April 2012 - June 2012)

Dueprops is a web-based peer recognition game for the workplace.
Started out as an Apprentice, mentored by Obie Fernandez (Founder & CEO) and quickly moved up as the Lead Developer.

My work there covered writing specs (Cucumber and RSpec) for new features, handling deployment (Heroku) and writing custom scripts for both the deployment and backups. I also handled some support emails.

Languages/Frameworks/Tools: Ruby, Rails, jQuery, Javascript, CoffeeScript, Haml, SASS/SCSS, HTML, Erb, Resque, Redis, ActiveRecord, Postgres, Rake.

Web Developer, Freelance, Cyprus (August 2010 – Present)

Primarily develop web applications using Ruby on Rails.

Languages/Frameworks/Tools: Ruby, Rails, jQuery, Javascript, CoffeeScript, Haml, SASS/SCSS, HTML, Erb, Resque, Redis, ActiveRecord, Postgres, Rake.

List of projects can be given on request.

.NET Developer at HS Data Ltd, Cyprus (September 2011 – January 2012)

Contracted by HS Data Ltd to work on a project for Marfin Laiki Bank, Cyprus.

The team part of the project was supervised and sub-contracted by Microsoft Cyprus.

Microsoft lead the project and provided the design for the SOA Layer and their consulting and planning/management services during the first phase of its development.

The work involved the design and development of a SOA Layer for exposing internal bank services as external services to the bank's end user. It was part of an initiative started by the bank during their transitioning from an older single mainframe model to a more distributed system.

The layer had to interface with a number of technologies (both legacy and actively developed) and in turn expose a number of services to the end users.

The end users included both internal bank software and thin clients, even ATMs, as well as any
ERP
developed by third parties to access bank services. The development was mostly based on a number of tools and technologies offered by Microsoft.

Tools/Languages/Frameworks: Microsoft .NET4, WF4, WCF, BizTalk Mapper, SQL Server, XML, XSLT, C#, VB.NET

ASP.NET Developer at HS Data Ltd, Cyprus (October 2010 – December 2010)

Full-time ASP.NET developer for work on a web-based cheque processing system for the Bank Of Cyprus.

Tools/Languages/Frameworks: ASP.NET 2.0, C#, Vb 6.0, SQL Server, Reporting Tools.
