Operating system

  • Linux

Application

  • Desktop

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Install joplin fresh (with no ~/.config/joplin or ~/.config/joplin-desktop)
    • Synchronisation target: File system
    • Directory to synchronise with: /home/rms/Documents/myfirstsyncfolder
  2. Create some notes and sync them
  3. Delete folder /home/rms/Documents/myfirstsyncfolder
  4. Create folder /home/rms/Pictures/mysecondsyncfolder
  5. Update Joplin settings: Directory to synchronise with: /home/rms/Pictures/mysecondsyncfolder
  6. Sync Joplin

Expected behaviour:

Joplin syncs to /home/rms/Pictures/mysecondsyncfolder

Observed behaviour:

Joplin doesn't update the sync folder and keeps syncing to /home/rms/Documents/myfirstsyncfolder even after it was deleted.

Workaround:

  1. Backup your notes
  2. Delete ~/.config/joplin and ~/.config/joplin-desktop
  3. Start Joplin and setup with new sync folder

Does it really keep syncing with myfirstsyncfolder? Does it create new notes inside, etc?

The correct way to change the sync folder is like this:

  1. Copy /home/rms/Documents/myfirstsyncfolder to /home/rms/Documents/mysecondsyncfolder
  2. In Joplin, change dir to /home/rms/Documents/mysecondsyncfolder
  3. Delete /home/rms/Documents/myfirstsyncfolder

  1. Set up syncing for /home/rms/Documents/myfirstsyncfolder
  2. create some dummy notes
  3. sync
  4. Copy /home/rms/Documents/myfirstsyncfolder to /home/rms/Documents/mysecondsyncfolder
  5. in Joplin update sync dir to /home/rms/Documents/mysecondsyncfolder
  6. sync again, seems to be working fine
  7. delete /home/rms/Documents/myfirstsyncfolder
  8. sync again - "Deleted local items: 2" and folder /home/rms/Documents/myfirstsyncfolder is recreated

Indeed something doesn't look right - marking it as bug.
