This works for me:
filter:e("progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr='")@from e("',endColorstr='")@to e("',GradientType=1)");

A bit complicated (only with mix-ins) but it does the job.

However, I'd also like to escape a whole block with declarations (like a reset part of the stylesheet). This doesn't work with e("...").
It seems to work in property values only.

emkayy thank you so much! Here's what worked for me. Notice, I deleted the single quotes (IE9 tested).

filter: e("progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr=")@start e(",endColorstr=")@end e(",GradientType=0)");
-ms-filter: e("progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr=")@start e(",endColorstr=")@end e(",GradientType=0)");
